Reviews of The Goddess’ Fun Shop: The Unknown Duel

  Offical BE Story Club Review

7/28/2006
Instead of a normal review (who reads these things to see if they should read a story anyway?), I’d like to spend some time talking about the making of this story.

A few months ago, back in 2005, I got a story submission entitled “One God’s Fun”. It was a very short story featuring two girls and a younger sister who get mixed up with a pranking Goddess who likes to enlarge breasts. The story was raw and unrefined, but showed a tremendous amount of potential. It would have been good enough for the story club back then, if only recieving an average score. People would have read it and laughed, and then quickly forgotten it.

Often when I’m reading BE stories, I will read something and think to myself, “This could have been a truly great story if the author just spent a little more time developing his ideas.” After sending a letter to the author asking if I could collaborate with him, I then spent the next two months slaving over the story, expanding it to nearly twice its original size and adding several new scenes, and even a new character. I can honestly say that I haven’t had this much fun and this much drive to work on a story in over 5 years.

Goddess’ Fun Shop is a “universe” story, from which many more “GFS” stories will hopefully arise. The shop and the goddess are an homage in many ways to Bill Hart’s Spells R Us universe. However, where the SRU universe centers around transgender, the GFS universe has been designed and molded from the ground up to be primarily for breast expansion. Some people might see this as a clone of the SRU story model, but I think there’s a few key differences here, and I’d hope that any author who wishes to continue this universe understands and obeys the rules that we’ve laid out.

The first key difference is that the Goddess is not “All Powerful” like the SRU wizard. She only has power over female-type transformations which pertain to her area of specialty – female sexual characteristics. As such she cannot dissappear, teleport herself, make her shop dissapear, blink out of existance, or make sweeping reality-altering changes that the SRU wizard can do. Also, her reach of power is fairly limited to the geographic location she is in. She has a “shrine” or a “place of power” which is currently the mall that her shop is in, where she is at her strongest. Her power reach is only a few hundred miles radius from the mall, and it would diminish the farther away you travel from that location.

Also, while the SRU wizard performs magic out of seemingly noble (to himself at least) reasons, or a sense of justice, the goddess has no sense of right and wrong. Her only goal is to increase her power, and as such she cares very little for human concepts such as revenge, happiness, or making people “get what they deserve”. And although at the end its obvious she is using some sort of mental change magic to make the girls happy with their bodies (and make people believe they grew up like that), this is in fact a controlling form of magic simply for the sake of convenience. Nothing the Goddess does is meant to actually help people, and if she does it’s only an accident or a side effect.

Having said that, the GFS stories are not meant to be horror-driven or evil in nature. Quite the opposite, I feel that the goddess is more like the god “Loki” from the movie “The Mask” – agod of mirth and mischief, who does what she wants in a random and selfish fasion. While the story, or future stories, might take on a few dark tones, in the end I hope to never see anyone actually turn the goddess into a true villain (and yet not a heroin either), nor do I want to see people exploring the darker nature of BE transformation or sexual changes. GFS is meant to be primarily a “fun” story universe, hence the name.

I feel I should say a few words about the “impossible” nature of some of the story’s transformations. Yes, I know the girls are too big, and that there is no way they could walk with such fantastic sizes, nor could their little hearts pump enough blood to sustain their body mass. So... yes it is safe to say I’ve used a fair bit of “hand waving” whenever something physically impossible or questionable appears in the story. For the sake of moving the story forward and not dwelling on the darker aspects of breast/body expansion, let’s just say that the Goddess is employing some mild form of gene-manipulation magic, which keeps the girls alive, healthy, and functioning relatively normal no matter what happens to their bodies. Nobody really wants to read a story about agirl dying because she got crushed by her breasts.

Others might find the transformations here a bit too much, or even displeasing. To those people I will say, “Don’t read it!” I know there’s a lot of people who come to this site so they can read about really huge room-filling breasts, and this story is written just for them.

And once again, having said that I’ve tried to keep the story as realistic as possible, because I believe that’s what makes a truly good BE story. We put a lot of thought and detail into how these girls would get around and function if they were really put into this kind of position, so I hope that some of this hard work will show when you read the story, and that you can appreciate the amount of work that went on behind the scenes to make it as accruate and as interesting as possible. We really did do our homework with this.

I’d like to give a big thanks to all the people who worked so hard to make this story a reality. Quadhouse, for coming up with one of the most original and interesting ideas for a story I’ve seen in a very long time. Mr. HHH, Prophet Tenebrae, and Adama for letting me pester them and use them as a springboard for my ideas and thoughts. And finally to Johnny Swell, for being just about the best BE artist in existance. I know more than anyone the trouble he had to go through, and how hard it was to finish these pictures. I hope everyone can look at the art and realise how much work was put into it.

And lastly, to the readers. Thank you for reading, and giving us an audience.

Very well written, great details, and even better pics. Definitely worthy of a sequel, and don't hesitate to go larger. Two thumbs UP!!!
